Extra Maths Support - Year 1
The extra support activities below match Hamilton’s weekly maths plans. We now also provide Year 1 maths as short blocks. We will eventually be phasing out the plans, as we believe our short blocks offer you all of the same advantages and more, including the integration of the problem-solving investigations into each unit of study. Ten turns (1): Comparing numbers to 20. Spider's exercises (2): Counting on and back in 10s.
Spider adds (1): Adding 10 to 2-digit numbers. Spider subtracts (2): Subtracting 10 from 2-digit numbers.
Mystery sums (1): Finding how many more are needed to make 10. Totally ten (2): KNowing pairs to 10 by heart.
Behind the wall (1): Describing 3D shapes. Time jigsaws (2): Telling the time to the hour on analogue clocks.
Smelly socks! (1): Counting in 2s - 'clever counting ' and early multiplication. Good dog!(2): Using grouping to divide by 2, then 5.
Count the pennies (1): Finding total of two coins (10p, 5, 2p and 1p). Sweet shop (2): Finding change from 10p.
Make a number (1): Finding pairs which make 5, 6 or 7. Little brother, big brother (2): Using pattern and number bonds to work out related additions, e.g. 3+2 = 5, so 13 + 2 = 15, 4+3 = 7, so 14+3 = 17.
