1. Share and enjoy Eliot: Midnight Superhero. What makes Eliot a midnight superhero? When is midnight?
2. Share and enjoy My Mum is a Supermum. Why does Milo think his mum might be a supermum? What superpower does he think she has? Do children have any suspicions that they have a ‘super’ relative at home?!
3. Reread My Mum is a Supermum. Look at the two illustrations, comparing the features of a mum and a supermum. Could we create a picture of a superkid/child? Draw a sketch, adding features with children’s input, e.g. ‘Invisibility jumper, X-ray glasses, turbo trainers’ etc. What superpowers might this hero have?
4. Discuss a time when children were helpful or solved a problem for someone else. Why did they need help? How could they tell the person needed help? What did they do? What superpower did they use? (being quick, kind, helpful, funny) How does it feel to help someone else, or to be helped?
5. Reread a favourite superhero book from the week, or read Supertato in preparation for next week.

Poetry/Rhyme of the Week: We are All Superheroes
Introduce on Monday. Rehearse and chant during week, waiting to go to lunch, to focus on carpet, for fun! Develop performance and add actions.

Group Reader: Superheros - All Sorts
A quite superb book which points out that there are many types of superhero – human and otherwise! All children (and adults) will love the illustrations which can make us laugh out loud. This text is perfect for beginning readers.

1. Share Superhero ABC enjoying the humour. Discuss the new vocabulary, ‘crooks, felons, duels,’ etc. Pick a superhero. What powerful words can we use to describe them?
2. Reread Superhero ABC. Pick a letter. Can children think of a superhero name which begins with that sound? What would this hero be like? What would they do? (I = Ice girl…).
3. Share Supertato. How can we tell that Supertato is a superhero? What does he do? How does he help?
4. Read a favourite superhero story or comic as suggested by the children. What do they like about this story?
