Professor Ruth Merttens retires from Hamilton
Over the years Ruth has become synonymous with Hamilton. She has been a true force of nature behind a publishing and teacher training programme that was the first to Save Teachers’ Sundays and get them excited about teaching maths.
In all her work, she always put teachers and pupils first, and so it comes as no surprise that her farewell message is a tribute to those whom she’s served with such devotion and love.
Hamilton Brookes, now in its new home at Oxford Brookes University, is proud to be continuing the work and build on the legacy of Ruth and all who were part of Hamilton during her time.
Thank you, Ruth.
Professor Ruth Merttens retires from Hamilton Brookes.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a fond farewell to all teachers and colleagues who use Hamilton materials and resources. It is finally time to take my leave.
Working at Hamilton Trust, I have always believed that teaching is the best profession for anyone to join as well as the most important job there is.
Professor Ruth Merttens
Primary teachers are amazing – they make a difference every day to the lives of thousands of children. They are under-paid and under-valued but we at Hamilton have held every single classroom teacher, classroom assistant, senior manager and school governor in awe. Teaching young children, like being a parent, is simultaneously almost impossible and absolutely essential.
So, as I leave Hamilton, I extend my grateful thanks to all those who have made my life as well as the lives of their pupils more interesting, richer and far more graceful than it would otherwise have been. Never stop believing in the importance of what you do and continue to praise and love the children in your care, so that they may flourish and grow.
Thank you all.
I wish Hamilton Brookes and all the teacher subscribers and friends every success in the future.
