Lesson Planning

Research the history of tennis from historical drawings of related games. Put the versions of tennis in the correct place on a family tree.

  • To research the history of tennis.

Children will:

  • Interpret a historical source.
  • Explain how tennis changed over the years.
  • Put source images in chronological order.

  • Select from and use a wider range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks accurately, (e.g. cutting, shaping, joining and finishing).
  • Select from and use a wider range of materials and components, including construction materials, textiles and ingredients, according to their functional properties and aesthetic qualities.

Lesson Planning

Investigate the design of racquets through the ages and then choose one to recreate, following given instructions

Teaching Outcomes:

  • To research different types of racquets.
  • To research how to make a tennis racquet.

Children will:

  • Explain why the design of an object has changed through time.
  • Use various construction materials to make a replica tennis racquet.
  • Give feedback on each other's designs.

  • To work out the rules of various tennis-like games from historical sources.
  • To play tennis-like games.

  • Deduce information from different historical sources
  • Synthesize information from historical sources
  • Play tennis games with modified rules
