Hamilton's new maths blocks preserve our rigorous pedagogy, progression and consistent development of models, but they enable teachers to choose to teach in longer or shorter blocks as suits their class. Being subdivided into stand-alone units, these blocks can be used with any blocking scheme.
Tailor your teaching Hamilton’s flexible blocks keep the teacher in control, so that you can plan sequences of lessons specifically tailored to suit the children in your class – plus it doesn’t take ages! Saving your Sundays is still important to us. Hamilton's blocks of coherent content, similar to other Mastery curriculum offerings, contain full developed and differentiated teaching and activities planning materials.
Hamilton's blocks allow flexible timing – teachers select the appropriate number of units to tailor the length of block to suit their class. You choose the units you need to work through the maths curriculum and also to address specific skills gaps that your may have identified in your class. Each unit gives you:
- Teaching for understanding outline and detailed documentation – clear outlines of the whole class input and the adult led group activities for children working below ARE, at ARE or in greater depth
- Problem solving and investigative activities for every unit
- Reasoning questions for each unit to assess Mastery
- Procedural fluency worksheets at three levels – working at ARE, working toward ARE, working at greater depth
- Mental/oral starters – warm up skills of the lesson or practise skills not being revisited for a while when using a blocked curriculum
- Extra support for children working well below ARE – specially designed small-group focussed activities, with a sheet for an adult and activity cards for the children, to be done either later the same day or at another time
